DERBY, England – Myerscough College improved to 2-1 in the EABL Northern conference with a comeback 80-74 win over Derby College Trailblazers on Wednesday afternoon.
The first half was a high scoring back and forth affair with each team displaying their intent from the opening tip. Derby was led by the inside presence of Hooper and Yapo, Myerscough would counter from long range with multiple players hitting from deep. Myerscough saw themselves down by the finest margins at the half, 44-43.
Defensive intensity for Myerscough changed gears in the third quarter as they started to limit the hosts inside scoring and built themselves a 1-point lead of their own as Denilson Caschili and Mandre Costa connected from deep to end the third quarter.
Myerscough’s hot touch from the perimeter would continue in the fourth quarter as they connected on another four shots from deep as Mandre Costa continued to lead the charge against his former team. Peter Asante would then get a steal and a score with just over a minute to play to give Myerscough their biggest lead of the game at 78-69 and Derby were unable to recover.
Mandre Costa had a game-high 20 points whilst Euan Birch added 15 points and Peter Asante chipped in with another 13 points.
Ben Hooper led the way with 15 points with Yapo and Webster supporting with 12 points each.
Myerscough returns to action after the half-term break against Newcastle Eagles Academy (1-2) on Wednesday 9th November whereas Derby Trailblazers (1-1) travel to SGS College (2-0).
