Akanmu leads Myerscough past Sheffield

Preston, England – Bryan Akanmu scored a team high 23 points as Myerscough used a strong second half performance for a 88 – 66 win over Sheffield College in the EABL on Wednesday.

“We looked back and worked from our past performances”, Akanmu Said “We waited for our time [in the game] and executed as a team, now we have to get ready for our games ahead”.

Myerscough rushed out to a 13 – 7 lead behind back-to-back three pointers from Euan Birch and Pedro Ellery, Sco’ held a 23 – 17 advantage after the first quarter. The home side were made to work through the second period as Sheffield capitalised on foul trouble to leave the game finely poised at 41 – 40 at the half.

It was a different story in the after the break as Myerscough moved through the gears. The home side, spurred on by a brilliant crowd, outscored Sheffield 45 – 26 through the final two periods, limiting the visitors to just 10 points in the fourth.

Sam Cheshire had 18 points and Euan Birch added 14 for Myerscough. Charles Okafor carried the scoring load for Sheffield with a game high 26 points.

Myerscough move to 9 & 1 for the season and will head to Charnwood next week.
