Asante twins lead Myerscough to the next round of the National Cup

Preston, England – Myerscough’s NBL Division 2 Men’s team punched its ticket into the next round of the Men’s National Cup with a comfortable win over newly promoted Worcester Wolves, 76-61.

Myerscough showed their intent from the opening exchanges and the theme continued throughout the first quarter as Worcester struggled to get anything going at the rim. Consecutive stops combined with a trio of three pointers saw the hosts build an early 22-11 lead.

Denilson Caschili hit a three to start the quarter and Stephen Asante added one to end the first half as Myerscough continued to open the gap in the second quarter. Defense was turned into offense and the lead stretched to 39-25.

Worcester would cut the deficit as close as 9 points on a couple of occasions in the second half, but Myerscough would always have an answer as a very disciplined performance enabled them to keep control and seal the victory.

Peter and Stephen Asante led the charge for Myerscough with 23 and 19 points respectively whereas Denilson Caschili continued his good form with another 17 points including five three pointers.

Coach James Jones was pleased with the energy shown by his young group. “The team responded well following the defeat in the first game of the season. We played with a lot of energy and effort and got contributions from all 12 players. We still have a lot of work to do but are moving in the right direction”.
