Preston, England – Myerscough moved into third place in the U18 Northern Premier Conference with a convincing 73-54 win over Sheffield Sabres Elite Basketball.
Kamarni Steadman hit a three-pointer to open the quarter and Adam Coxon connected from deep to close it as Myerscough edged a back-and-forth quarter to take an early lead, 16-13.
The second quarter provided much of the same as neither team was able to find any breathing room, but forward Dayvantia Campbell-Deeble started to assert himself as he scored 9 points straight to see Myerscough into a 34-31 halftime lead.
The game continued to remain close until Myerscough exploded for 15 unanswered points to start the fourth quarter and saw them boast a 64-45 lead. Sheffield’s leading scorer Kom scored quick 6 points, but it was too late as Myerscough saw out the clock on a strong performance.
Reflecting on his strong performance, Campbell-Deeble added – “We came with lots of intensity today, with a strong focus on what we needed to do to get the win. Our supporters brought lots of energy which boosted our confidence. I felt like I had a huge role on offence and my teammates did a great job of getting me into positions to score which led us to the win.”.
Dayvantia Campbell-Deeble had a game-high double-double with 29 points to go along with 13 rebounds. Taylor Campbell and Lewis Smith both joined in double figures with 13 and 10 points each.
Declan Kom led Sheffield with 23 points but was held to just 8 points in the second half. Day and Tokpah offered support with 7 and 6 points respectively.
Myerscough (9-4) travel to City of Leeds Academy (0-8) this coming weekend as they look to build on their win as they continue to chase 2nd place in the conference.
