Kyle Carey tied for a team-high 13 points and grabbed five rebounds to help lift Great Britain over Poland 71-69 and into the semifinals at the Under-20 European Championships in Oradea, Romania.
Carey’s 3-pointer with 6:59 remaining broke a 55-all deadlock and Great Britain never trailed again, but had to deny a pesky Poland its comeback bid.
“I have a lot of confidence in myself to make big plays under pressure,” said Carey. “I’m also fortunate to have teammates that put me in positions to make the right play and it is a trust we have in one another.
Despite averaging just six points in the Group Stages, which Great Britain emerged as runners-up to Russia, Carey took advantage of his 19 minutes on court.
“We are a much deeper team than we were last year and I just have to stay ready and when my time comes be ready to contribute in any way possible.”
The Great Britain U20s will face Croatia in the semifinals on Saturday with an eye on promotion to Division A — something that has happened since 2013.
