MANCHESTER — Edoardo Del Cadia bullied his way to a game-high 23 points in a 71-55 win at Loreto College to open Myerscough’s EABL season on Wednesday.

Del Cadia, who did the majority of his damage in the opening half scoring 12 points, also had nine rebounds.

“We played very well. We moved the ball and we found easy baskets,” said the forward. “We played to our strength.”

Michael Anumba gave Myerscough (1-0) trouble in the opening quarter, as he put Loreto ahead 17-16. But a galvanised Myerscough regrouped to force the hosts into difficult shots and took a five-point advantage into the break.

Martel Elly and Mate Okros each hit timely 3-pointers in the third quarter to extend Myerscough’s lead to double-digits.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game, as Loreto has already had an extra couple of games to get into a rhythm,” said Myerscough head coach Neal Hopkins. “It was a test of our character and we showed it when we needed to, and although it was pretty at times, we did what we had to to get the win.”

Okros was the only other Myerscough player to reach double figures adding 11 points, but the visitors received a balance offensive contribution with nine different scorers.

Myerscough shot right at 40 percent and converted 28 Loreto turnovers into 24 points.

Anumba led Loreto (2-1) with 19 points and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo added 13 in the loss.
