Myerscough fall short at Liverpool

An opening day away fixture saw Myerscough push Division 2 side Liverpool all the way in the first round of the national cup, with the hosts eventually taking the game 92 – 88.

Hot shooting in the fist quarter from the visiting team was answered by Liverpool’s Jack Hudson who showed his composure guiding Liverpool from behind to tie the game at 23 after the first.

Myerscough’s Mo Tyrell nailed 12 points from beyond the arc but Liverpool made their presence inside felt to take a 53 – 42 lead into the half time break.

A huge second half fight back came up short as Myerscough dragged the difference to as little as 2 points going into the final stages but Liverpool held their nerve to take a 93 – 88 win, progressing into the next round of the cup.

“It was great to have 6 U18’s on the floor playing valuable minutes, its all about getting the chemistry and gaining an identity – this squad will be very competitive, we have the talent its now a case of bringing it together” Commented Coach Gayle after the game.

Mosi Tyrell finished with 24 points for Myerscough whilst Nils Ozolins collected 19 and Raheem Idriss with 13.

Myerscough are back in action taking on Tameside in the national shield on Sunday (4pm tip at SANAC, Preston)
