LONDON — Myerscough opened the Women’s Elite Academy Basketball League season with a 76-49 defeat on the road at Barking Abbey on Wednesday.

Shauna Harrison tied for a game-high 15 points for Myerscough (0-1). Milly Knowles and Krya Smith added 13 each, but had just two other contributors.

“In a game of this standard you need to make the most of your opportunities offensively and work hard to compete throughout,” said Myerscough coach Julie Page. “We struggled in both those areas today, so we have to evaluate the consistency of our effort levels and refocus.”

Myerscough held a slim 17-15 lead after the opening quarter, but was outscored 22-5 before halftime and never recovered.

Zoe Willis led Barking Abbey (1-0) with 15 points whilst Dami Adeyinka and Charlotte Ellmore combined for 25 in the win.
