GRONINGEN, Netherlands. — The Myerscough Under-19 Select Basketball Team finished in third place after defeating Donar 77-72 in overtime at the Holland Nordic Basketball Tournament.
Myerscough, which ended pool play with a 2-1 record to advance to the winners bracket, narrowly missed out on the final following a two-point loss to eventual tournament champions BCM Orli Prostejov on Sunday.
But Myerscough recovered to beat the team it had lost to to open the tournament on Saturday to better its sixth place finish at the 2017 HNBT.
Konrad Kantorski knocked down a 3-pointer with five minutes remaining to give Myerscough a 59-49 lead. But Donar responded to close on a 16-6 run, including back-to-back triples to force overtime.
Donar twice took the lead in the extra period before Edoardo Del Cadia knotted the score at 70-all. Rayon Brown broke the tie at the free throw line and Myerscough held off the hometown team to claim third.
Myerscough was led by Best Defensive Player at the HNBT Del Cadia’s 20 points and 16 rebounds and Konrad Kantorski, who won the 3-point contest, added 17 in the consolation game.
