PRESTON, Lancs. — The Myerscough Under-19 Select Basketball Team will spend its Easter Holiday at the Holland Nordic Basketball Tournament (HNBT) in Groningen.
The 2018 instalment of the HNBT, which runs March 31 to April 2 at the Sporthal Vinkhuizen, features teams from Holland, Germany, Lithuania, Slovenia, Belgium and the Czech Republic. Last year’s winners BCM Orli Prostejev return to defend its tournament title.
“The level of competition at the tournament is outstanding,” said Myerscough coach Neal Hopkins. “It’s important for our guys to get an opportunity to play against high level European players in a completely different environment, and to have that experience to build on their current repertoire.”
Myerscough makes its second appearance at the tournament and will face hometown Donar Groningen in the opening pool game at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday before playing Tornado Basketball Club (Kaunas, Lithuania), which finished second last year, and EWE Baskets (Oldenburg, Germany).
The tournament again have a skills programme taking place on Sunday night and will conclude with a ceremony on Monday following the classification games.
Myerscough finished six in its debut at the HNBT in 2018, with Tyrell Brown being named Best Defensive Player and David Walsh winning the 3-point competition.
