PRESTON – The Myerscough Women’s team heads to Portugal on Monday, Feb. 18 for four-day mid-season training camp at Sunlive Basketball.

The camp will provide the Myerscough Women‘s squad with a window of respite during half-term, with a pair of exhibition games against European opposition and the use of the Academy‘s facilities, as well a chance to enjoy time away from the court.

Myerscough head coach Mike Bernard previously participated in the retreat two yeas ago during pre-season with the men‘s part of the programme, but will now reward the girls to a similar experience abroad.

“It should be a great experience for all the girls, especially the ones who haven‘t had a chance to play outside of the United Kingdom,” said Bernard. “For the likes of Kazz [Devine], Jess [McGrath] and Katie [Simpson] it‘ll be good to see them challenge themselves against competition and a skill set they wouldn‘t have seen before.”

Myerscough‘s squad for SunLive Basketball training camp includes Devine, McGrath, Simpson, Celina Eisenhardt, Kyra Smith, Sasha Lecuyer and Nicola Boardman, as well as Paula Puzule, who will travel with the team, but is recovering from knee surgery.

“It‘s going to be a completely different environment than the same gym, same court,” said Bernard. “There‘s no pressure on them — it‘s not that type of retreat — but it‘ll be hard work and we‘ll be able to continue to put into practice the things we‘ll use over the remaining games of the season.

“Yes, we‘re getting towards the end of the season, but this is a great time to continue bonding as a team and mingle as a group. It‘s good that we can gives these kids different experiences.”

The Myerscough Women‘s team wraps up the final three games of its Division 2 schedule and will continue to get ready for the WEABL Playoffs when it returns to England.
