Myerscough soar as Eagles downed

Preston, England – Myerscough College improved to 3-1 in the EABL Northern Conference with an emphatic 121-44 win over Newcastle Eagles in front of a packed home crowd.

Captain Euan Birch would open the scoring for Myerscough and was swiftly followed by Dan Davies, making his presence known around the basket. Joe Sheeran would reply with a three-pointer for the visitors, but this would be as close as they would come for the rest of the afternoon.

Myerscough would limit the Eagles to just 3 more points in the quarter and built themselves a comfortable 26-6 advantage after ten minutes of play.

The defensive pressure continued in the second quarter as Myerscough held Newcastle scoreless across the first five minutes as the lead increased past the 30-point mark. Eagles would regroup after a timeout but still trailed 50-30 at halftime.

The second half proved to be like the first as Myerscough showed no signs of slowing down and outscored their opponents, 71-24, ensuring a sprint through to the final whistle.

Stephen Asante led the way for Myerscough with 18 points. Euan Birch and Ben Prince contributed 14 points each whilst Peter Asante had 13 points of his own.

Jakey Weech was the only Newcastle player to reach double figures with 15 points whereas Joe Sheeran added 8 points in support.

Myerscough is on the road next week to Sheffield College on Wednesday 16th November whereas Newcastle Eagles host SGS College.
