Preston, England – Myerscough improved to 5-9 in NBL Division 2 North after an impressive start powered them to a comfortable 71-53 win over Charnwood College Riders, who slide to a four-game losing streak.
Captain Euan Birch scored for Myerscough on the opening possession and later connected with a three pointer to start and finish a 9-1 start across the opening minutes of the game. The pressure would continue to mount for the visitors as Sco saw 9 different players contribute to scoring throughout the first quarter.
Peter Asante would connect on back-to-back three pointers either side of the quarter break to give Myerscough their largest lead of the game at 31-10. Edward Onyia would lead the resistance for Charnwood as he scored 9 of his 11 points in the quarter but neither team could create any separation and the gap remained at 19 points at halftime, 45-26.
Myerscough’s offense slowed in the third quarter as they went long periods without any contributions. Charnwood managed to cut the lead down to 11 points as Lamarana Diallo scored four straight baskets before in-from Denilson Caschili converted an and-one and drained a long three pointer to beat the quarter buzzer. Myerscough led 54-39 after the third quarter.
Dayvantia Campbell-Deeble found his scoring touch in the fourth quarter contributing eight points which helped Myerscough have an answer every time Charnwood threatened and close out the game with a comfortable win.
Reflecting on the strong performance, Coach Culley added – “This was a big win for our group. The guys were locked in from the start and did a great job in helping us establish the early lead. We were able to answer every time Charnwood tried to fight back into the game and saw key contributions from several guys. We look to build on this for our mid-week fixture and then roll that back into league play next weekend.”
Denilson Caschili top scored for Myerscough with 15 points. Peter Asante added 12 points of his own whilst Euan Birch and Dayvantia Campbell-Deeble both added 10 respectively.
Caiden Ross had a game-high 16 points in the defeat for Charnwood. He was supported by Edward Oniya (11 points) and Lamarana Diallo (8 points).
Myerscough (5-9) host Bristol Academy Flyers (7-7) this coming weekend as they look to continue their climb up the table. Charnwood Riders (2-12) return home to face Derbyshire Arrows (9-6).
